- The collection of learner work is compulsory for all grades. Facilitators and departmental circulars will provide detailed information regarding the content required.
- Internal moderation will take place on a regular basis to track ELT (portfolio) progress. All staff members will meet at the same time in the hall for the purposes of internal moderation at least once a term.
- Cluster moderation will be scheduled as the term progresses. The attendance of cluster meetings is compulsory.
-
TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- The school uses the following definitions regarding assessment:
- HOMEWORK is a piece of work that consolidates or reinforces work done in the classroom. This could take place between 1 day and 1 week.
- An ASSIGNMENT is a task or piece of work given as part of a learning area being studied. This could take up to two weeks to complete.
- A PROJECT is an extensive or detailed study of a particular topic or theme in a learning area and may take up to three weeks to complete.
- It is school policy that each book or file belonging to a learner must be marked and signed at least twice per term. All marking received on the day should be completed within the cycle and returned to the learners.
- Please ensure that learners do not write more than THREE class tests in a week across all learning areas.
- If a learner does not do homework, indicate this in the learner’s diary.
- If an assignment or project is submitted after the due date without reason, treat it in the following way:
- If THREE days late, a letter should be sent to the parent informing them that the learner will receive “0” for the assignment.
NO PORTFOLIO TASKS MUST BE ACCEPTED ONCE THE STANDARDIZED EXAMS COMMENCE!
SUMMARIZED EXAMINATION POLICY
In 2011 the following procedure will be followed:
- All marks are kept on Excel spreadsheets.
- Composite mark sheets must be drawn up in the first week of term and must be kept up to date. Please ensure that a copy is kept on a personal flash drive.
- Term marks are entered directly onto SASPAC.
- In Term 1 and Term 3 a series of standardized exams will be written on Tuesday and Thursday in the last two weeks of term.
- Normal examination rules and procedures apply, except that learners are requested to supply the writing paper.
- The exams/tests will be at least one hour in duration and count a minimum of 50 marks.
- In Term 2 and Term 4 a full examination will be written.
- Examination timetables will follow as soon as dates have been finalized by the District Office. In some subjects the writing of common examinations will be compulsory.
- The normal requirements will be followed for the lay-out of the paper, i.e. stating the LO’s and AS’s where applicable, proper lay-out, differentiation, etc.
- Deadlines must be STRICTLY adhered to.
- Once a test or exam has been written, a teacher must submit the marked scripts to the HOD for moderation within 5 days.
Please avoid unpleasant confrontations between you and your HOD and the Data Capturer by ensuring that your marks are submitted on time. |
